Just as all classroom instructional strategies have changed over time, so have instructional approaches for use of technology advanced. One of the differences is in the rate of change that is taking place. We have moved gradually from a “sage on the stage” style of teaching to a “guide on the side”. Engaging students is of an ever-increasing importance in today’s classrooms. Technology’s rapid evolution provides both opportunity and challenge to engage students. We are quickly moving toward guiding students to apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information rather than remember and comprehend it. Yes, students do still need core knowledge, and technology provides easy access; however, access is merely a tip of the iceberg towards the goal of applying effective technological strategies.
